Carolina and Marks maternity session was a nice and relaxed photoshoot, walking through a whimsical forest of Eucalyptus trees in La Jolla, California. Being first time parents, they were eagerly anticipating the birth of their baby boy, all ready to go! Their maternity pictures were just about the last thing they had planned to do before welcoming their baby into the world.
Having the stress of trying to get everything together before your baby comes can be a distraction from more fun things like having your photos taken. One thing I do is not only help my clients prepare for their session before the shoot but make everything nice and relaxing during the shoot.
A few helpful tips when planning for your maternity photos:
- Plan outfits before the day of your session
- Give yourself PLENTY of time for hair/make up, whether having it professionally done or doing it yourself
- Put together a bag of things that will be helpful at your shoot like a brush, hairspray, flip flops (if you are wearing heels and will be walking around)
- Talk with photographer about any worries you're having or ask questions, it doesn't hurt to ask!
Hopefully these tips will be helpful for you in preparing for your maternity photo session or any session for that matter!

Lori and Bryn were my first photo session upon my returning to start shooting again after David was born. I took them to a location I had been wanting to shoot at for a while and I'm so glad I did because it was such a beautiful and private location, perfect for their maternity pictures. We had fun walking through the woods during the golden hour and watching my husband and baby hike in the distance throughout the shoot!
They will be welcoming their first baby girl into the world very soon! Can't wait to meet her when I photograph her newborn pictures once she arrives!
Christine and Justin had such a beautiful maternity session! The location was absolutely beautiful despite the fact that it was a very hot and humid day, we had to work around hundreds of Pokemon Go players all over the park! I've shot many session at this location before and never had it been so busy...I guess it's a popular game, haha! Anyways, despite the many people looking down at their phones and taking up locations I normally use, we all made away with a great session.
Christine makes such a beautiful pregnant lady, and of course it helps when you show up in a gorgeous flowing maternity gown! Thank you guys for being so easy and laid back to work with, and being up to getting in between tons of thorny rose bushes :) Doing things a bit dangerously always make for extra special pictures :) Just a short while till your baby girl is here!

Stacy and Richie rocked their maternity session this past spring. They we’re a fun and easy couple to work with and I had a great time getting to know them. This is one of my favorite parts of photographing couples. I love meeting others and getting to know about them and make a lot of connections. Along with the natural look of their session Stacy wanted to use a few different props she had. I don’t normally use props in my sessions but the ones they chose we’re super cute and had good meaning! Also, those little blue moccasins we’re absolutely adorable, and believe it or not are from Old Navy! I really want to find some similar for our baby boy due in October!
You may notice the cute little onesie they are holding which has the month/year little baby Heath would be welcomed into the world. Though Heath was expected in April, he decided to make his entrance slightly early, so having these pictures displaying April made for a nice little joke in their family, especially since these pictures are now displayed in baby Heath's room!
When I showed up to meet Heath for the first time outside the womb and take his newborn photos, seeing the photos of Stacy and Richie’s maternity pictures displayed in his room we’re so encouraging! I love seeing work from previous sessions displayed on the walls of client’s homes. This has always been my goal; to give clients so beautiful they can’t help but display them on their walls. This quiet setting in East Lake was perfect for Lorena and Ryan's maternity pictures. Lorena was expecting her third baby and at the time decided to wait and be surprised as to what God was going to bless them with for this pregnancy. They have already been blessed with two little boys already and are very excited (and surprised!) to announce to welcome a baby girl! What a wonderful surprise!
We picked such a perfect day and gorgeous location for this maternity session. Scripps pier is a location that many photographers enjoy photographing due to its beautiful light! You can see why below! It also helps that my wonderful model Lindsey wore this beautiful aqua/blue dress to accommodate with the soft light this beach has.
We had a fun time wandering around the beach and climbing up rocks to get photos. Lindsey brought her daughter along to the shoot, and since Lindsey is a photographer herself, her daughter was definitely not new to being in front of the camera. With Lindseys husband being away in the military, we're hoping these photos of her pregnancy will send some love his way as the days are getting shorter and he can be reunited with his family. I'm excited as you spend your last weeks waiting for your little boy to arrive and add one more member to your family!
