Carolina and Marks maternity session was a nice and relaxed photoshoot, walking through a whimsical forest of Eucalyptus trees in La Jolla, California. Being first time parents, they were eagerly anticipating the birth of their baby boy, all ready to go! Their maternity pictures were just about the last thing they had planned to do before welcoming their baby into the world.
Having the stress of trying to get everything together before your baby comes can be a distraction from more fun things like having your photos taken. One thing I do is not only help my clients prepare for their session before the shoot but make everything nice and relaxing during the shoot.
A few helpful tips when planning for your maternity photos:
- Plan outfits before the day of your session
- Give yourself PLENTY of time for hair/make up, whether having it professionally done or doing it yourself
- Put together a bag of things that will be helpful at your shoot like a brush, hairspray, flip flops (if you are wearing heels and will be walking around)
- Talk with photographer about any worries you're having or ask questions, it doesn't hurt to ask!
Hopefully these tips will be helpful for you in preparing for your maternity photo session or any session for that matter!

Monica and Pablo had a beautiful maternity session along with some added fun that showed their personalities a bit. As you can tell they are big Ninja Turtle fans and made sure not to just bring a little turtle onesie as a prop for their session but they each came wearing cute Ninja Turtle t-shirts! I think their son will look back and think about how silly their parents were when he see's these photos!
Along with the fun of having some photos displaying their Ninja Turtle attire, they made sure to have their fur babies in some of the photos because you can't leave out your first "children". After photographing many pets in photo sessions, I have come to the conclusion, dogs LOVE to be apart of the photo session. It's hard to get them away from their human parents and it's so cute.
Overall we had a great time running around using different locations to create beautiful scenic backdrops for Monica and Pablo's maternity session and it totally paid off! The rose garden surrounding this beautiful mom was killer and one of my favorites!
I had a great time walking around Balboa Park and photographing these two days (literally) before they officially became parents and welcomed their little girl into their family! Pregnancy and the whole delivery rarely goes as planned and how we envision which led to the decision of having the exact day their little one would enter this world! Their little girl was tiny but cute and healthy!
I had the pleasure of photographing this cute little family who were expecting a baby girl in the coming weeks. A few months prior to photographing this family, Meghan was the one photographing me while I was just as pregnant with my little guy! I'm so thankful for the photos that documented my pregnancy so beautifully (we have these photos now displayed in our home because they are true pieces of art!) and am glad to have documented their last family photos as a family of 3 and the joy as they awaited their daughter/sister.
Since both Meghan and her husband Will are photographers, they get lots of photos of their own children and each other but having both of them in front of the camera together was a great gift to them.
