As most of you know, I recently moved to San Diego to marry my best friend. Love and serving the Lord often come with sacrifices, change, and giving up comforts. The West Coast is still an adjustment for me and as someone whose favorite season is fall; I’ve been experiencing a major environmental change. Fall is my favorite season, so having 85-95 degree weather in late September/early October was not what I had in mind for fall.
I have definitely felt the sadness that comes from homesickness and a change in environment. We have a sign on our deck that says “Bloom where you’re planted”. Sounds cliché` and a bit cheesy but this quote has been encouraging for this time in my life. As with anything, it has helped to talk with close friends when I miss “home”. The other week I was talking to my good friend Megan about my love for fall and how I miss it living here. Well she took the initiative to bless me in an incredible way. She got together a bunch of fall nick-knacks and foods, placed them in a box, and shipped them all the way from Virginia!
The box was a huge surprise and had the most wonderful stuff! I seriously cannot express how thankful I am for this friendship! When I opened the box and began to go through all the wonderful things, I remembered a blog I read recently from a famous blogger who put together a box of food for a friend to bless them at a critical time in their life. Though this situation is a different, it made me want to blog this small blessing to encourage others!
Of course, it isn't always the things given to you that are the most special, it’s the thought that went into them and knowing that they thought of you when buying or making you those things.
Michael and I saw these pumpkin cheesecake cookies in the store and thought they looked so delicious! It was such a surprise to get these yummy cookies as a sweet treat in my box of fall!
Behind all the cute fall leafs, mini pumpkins, and acorns, you'll notice a miniature hay bale! I was oohing and ahhing over what a cute little touch that was. What a great idea to make a teeny tiny hay bale for decoration. When I went to college in PA a few of the barn parties (They're actually a ton of fun!)I went to had hay bale throwing contests to see who could thrown them the farthest.. I'm pretty sure I would win throwing this one...
If you know me, scented candles are the way to my heart. I just love having candles lit. Of course my favorite candles are holiday candles, holiday anything is usually the best! I can't wait to light this new candle!
As I was pulling each item out of the box, I didn't realize that the pie crust, pumpkin pure, and Reese's pieces we're a part of a recipe Megan had found and included in the box. What a fun idea! This is such a cute idea you could do for any holiday or occasion to bless somebody.
Such a sweet card that I now have on display in our kitchen next to two other fall cards I was given :)
I hope you were able to experience joy while reading my post! Let this post be a great encouragement for you to bless others in your life.
